What is BACKPEDAL?

BACKPEDAL meaning running backward; correct technique requires keeping shoulders over the toes and pumping arms as when running forward; used by defensive backs and linebackers in initial steps of pass coverage at many teams; correct technique facilitates changing direction quickly; leaning backwards is faster but unsound because it only allows very slow changes of direction; stopwatch timing of backpedaling requires that coaches make sure that the backpedalers are not leaning backward in order to gain speed at the expense of acquiring the unacceptable bad habit of leaning backward

What is Backpedal ?

Backpedal is (verb) 1. (ona bicycle) to move the pedals backwards 2. to change your point of view and do the opposite of what you had promised The government is starting to backpedal over its pledge to cut taxes. The minister had to backpedal rapidly when the papers found out about his speech.
