Created in 1948 as a special committee of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), RBMS exercises leadership in local, national, and international special collections communities to represent and promote the interests of librarians, curators, and other specialists concerned with the acquisition, organization, security, preservation, administration, and use of special collections, including rare books and manuscripts, archives, graphic materials, music, ephemera, etc. RBMS publishes the semiannual RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage and the semiannual RBMS Newsletter.
